Harleigh and TJ said “give me something moody” and we did just that!
For their engagement session we headed to Thr3 Jack in Minneapolis, which is an awesome bar and golf simulation space. They enjoyed snuggling up on the couches with some celebratory prosecco while I was a fly on the wall capturing their love story.
One of my favorite things about sessions like this is that I give a general direction on how I want my clients to interact, and then I take a step back and let them cozy up together, exchange inside jokes, and catch up on their day. With this style of couple engagement photos, I take the approach that it’s a date night and I’m there to capture it. I believe this provides the most authentic and genuine photos because it’s not me directing how you need to act every step of the way.
During this portion of their engagement session, I had them belly up to the bar and I went out to the patio and shot through the open windows. One of my favorite engagement session tips for photos like this is to find a photographer that takes a step back and allows you to interact with one another. I’m a huge believer that although it’s a portrait session, there should always be lifestyle elements woven into the overall gallery which makes your experience feel less posed and studio-like.
